AVIF Converter

AVIF is a modern image format that is often half the size of JPG at the same quality. Convert your photos to AVIF for faster websites, or turn AVIF files into JPG or PNG when an app cannot open them.

Your images stay on your device. Processing happens entirely in your browser.

How to use AVIF Converter

  1. Drop or choose one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or AVIF).
  2. Choose the target format and, for AVIF or JPG, the quality.
  3. Click "Convert" and download the files.

Frequently asked questions

Why use AVIF?

AVIF files are usually 30–50% smaller than JPG at similar quality, which makes websites load faster. All current browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari 16+) can show AVIF.

Which quality should I choose?

50–65 gives very small files that still look good for the web. Choose 80 or more for photos you want to keep; 100 saves without any loss (larger file).

Why does AVIF conversion take a while?

AVIF compresses very efficiently, which needs more computation than JPG. Encoding runs in a background process so the page stays responsive, and you can cancel it. Very large photos are reduced to 8192 px on the long side.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser with libavif (Apache-2.0) compiled to WebAssembly. For other formats, use Image Converter; to reduce JPG size, use Compress Image.
