Content-Aware Resize

Need a square or story version of a wide photo? Instead of stretching or cutting it, this tool removes (or adds) low-detail pixel strips such as sky, sea or plain walls, so people and objects keep their shape.

Your images stay on your device. Processing happens entirely in your browser.

How to use Content-Aware Resize

  1. Drop or choose a photo.
  2. Pick a ratio such as 1:1 or 9:16, or enter a new width and height in pixels.
  3. Optional: paint over faces or text with the "Protect" brush, or over something you want gone with "Remove object".
  4. Click "Resize smartly", compare the result with an ordinary resize and download it as JPG or PNG.

Frequently asked questions

What is content-aware resizing (seam carving)?

The photo is changed one pixel strip at a time. Each strip (a "seam") runs from edge to edge through the least noticeable pixels, such as sky or a plain background. Removing seams makes the image narrower or shorter; duplicating them makes it wider or taller. Important details keep their shape.

Which photos does it work best on?

Photos with calm areas: landscapes, sea, sky, walls or product shots on a plain background. Busy scenes, straight lines and close-up faces can bend if you shrink a lot. Protect faces with the brush, change the size less, or use Crop Image instead.

How do I remove an object from a photo?

Choose the "Remove object" brush and paint over the object. Seams are routed through the red area first until it is gone. Keep the width and height unchanged to fill the gap back in, or enter a smaller size to shrink the photo as well.

Is there a size limit?

Photos larger than 2000 pixels on the long side are reduced to 2000 px before processing, so it stays fast on phones too. Each side can be made up to 75% smaller or up to 2× larger. If you need a bigger file, use AI Image Upscaler afterwards.

How is this different from resizing or cropping?

Resize Image scales the whole picture, so a new aspect ratio stretches or squashes it. Crop Image cuts off the edges. Content-aware resize keeps the whole scene and the shape of the subject; the before/after slider shows the difference from an ordinary resize.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser in a background process. Your photo never leaves your device, and you can cancel at any time.
