Frequently asked questions

How are the colours chosen?

The image is reduced and its pixels are grouped by similarity (k-means clustering). Each group becomes one colour, sorted by how much of the picture it covers. Transparent pixels are ignored.

What are HEX and RGB?

Two ways of writing the same colour. HEX (e.g. #3B82F6) is used in web design and most design apps; RGB (e.g. rgb(59, 130, 246)) gives the red, green and blue values from 0 to 255.

Why do I get slightly different colours than I expected?

The palette shows averages of similar pixels, so tiny details may merge into a larger colour. Choose 12 colours for more detail. To remove a background first, use Remove Background.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The colours are calculated in your browser and your image never leaves your device.
