How to use Instagram Grid Splitter (Split Photo into 3×3 Tiles)

  1. Drop or choose one photo.
  2. Choose columns and rows (for example 3 × 3 = 9 tiles), the tile shape and whether to crop or fit the photo.
  3. Click "Split into tiles", download the files and post them in number order: 01 first, the highest number last.

Frequently asked questions

In which order should I post the tiles?

Instagram shows the newest post at the top left. So post file 01 first (it ends up bottom right) and the highest number last. Each file name also shows its row and column, for example r1c1 is the top-left tile.

Which tile shape should I choose?

Instagram profile grids now show posts as 3:4 tiles, so 3:4 is the default. Choose 4:5 if you want the full post to look right in the feed, or 1:1 for the classic square grid. The full post may be cropped slightly in the grid, so keep important parts away from the edges.

What is the difference between Crop and Fit?

"Crop to fill" crops the photo from the centre so it covers the whole grid. "Fit inside" keeps the whole photo and adds white bars where the shape does not match.

Will the tiles be sharp?

Each tile is 1080 px wide. A 3 × 3 grid therefore needs a photo about 3240 px wide to stay sharp. Smaller photos are enlarged and can look soft; our AI Image Upscaler can help first.

Can I split a panorama into a carousel?

Yes. Choose 1 row and 2 to 4 columns, then post the tiles as one carousel in the order of the file numbers. Use Resize Image for Instagram & Social Media if you only need to resize a photo for a single post.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photo is split in your browser and never leaves your device.
