Image to Text (OCR)

Stop retyping text from photos, screenshots or scans. Drop the image and OCR reads the text and turns it into copyable text you can paste anywhere.

Your images stay on your device. Processing happens entirely in your browser.

How to use Image to Text (OCR)

  1. Drop or choose your image (photo, screenshot, scan).
  2. Choose the text language; "Automatic" uses the page language.
  3. Click "Extract text", then copy the text or download it as .txt.

Frequently asked questions

Which images work best?

Sharp, straight, well-lit text. Skewed or blurry photos cause more errors, so shoot the text straight on and close up. Handwriting is usually not recognised.

Which languages are supported?

English, Turkish, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Indonesian, including their accented letters.

Can I extract text from a PDF?

For PDFs, use the OCR tool on our sister site Folidesk; it can also turn a scanned PDF into a searchable PDF.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Recognition runs in your browser; the language data (1–3 MB) downloads on first use and your image stays on your device.
